Gergiev’s Orchestra will Play for KAMAZ Employees
Tomorrow, on the 11th of December, the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra (St. Petersburg) conducted by the legendary Valery Gergiev will give a concert in Naberezhnye Chelny on OJSC KAMAZ’s top managers’ invitation.
The event is organized specially for KAMAZ employees, so there are no tickets for it on sale. The concert of the famous orchestra will become the first one in a number of festive events which will be held in honor of the 45th anniversary of KAMAZ which the Kama automobile plant will celebrate in December 2014.
This is not Valery Gergiev’s first visit to Naberezhnye Chelny. In 2010, a concert of the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra became a big event in the city’s cultural life and a remarkable charity performance on the International Children’s Defense Day. At that time, all funds raised from sales of tickets to the concert, children’s handicrafts and paintings exhibited in a foyer of the Organ Hall, and also private donations were presented to the Children with Cerebral Palsy Foundation and the Emerald City Project supported by KAMAZ.Read the full text »
Then Sergey Kogogin, General Director of the Kama automobile plant, told the spectators about his acquaintance with Valery Gergiev. “In Moscow, in Sberbank’s office, Valery Abisalovich and I had a five-minute, one can say, chance meeting. We understood each other at a word. The result of this dialogue is this remarkable concert,” KAMAZ’s top manager said. “I think today we have started a new tradition: we will be friends with the outstanding musicians of the Mariinsky Theatre and this wonderful person – Maestro Valery Gergiev.” Tomorrow’s concert evidences that friendship between these two persons famous in the world of music and in the world of the auto industry continues and becomes even stronger.
It should be noted that the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra is one of the oldest in Russia. Its history dates back to the first orchestra of the St Petersburg Imperial Opera Orchestra, covering a period of over two hundred years. In 2008, the Mariinksy Orchestra appeared on the list of the world’s top 20 ensembles compiled after a poll that had aggregated opinions of the leading music critics of the largest American, Asian and European editions. Debut recordings on the Mariinsky label established by Maestro Valery Gergiev in spring 2009 were an exceptional event in the world of music, and in the first year of their existence they received record five nominations for the Grammy award.
Thanks to the two managers’ friendly relations, a unique chance to enjoy world art and listen to masterpieces of classical music will be given to KAMAZ employees too.
