Africa Eco Race 2017 Has Started

31 December 2016

Today, on December 31, an official opening of the Africa Eco Race 2017 will take place in Monaco. The KAMAZ-master team will be represented by crews headed by Andrey Karginov and Sergey Kupriyanov who will drive a gas powered KAMAZ racing truck at the race.

After the launch ceremony, the participants, journalists and organizers of the Africa Eco Race 2017 together with the vehicles will ferry across the Mediterranean Sea to Africa. On the morning of January 2, the ferry will moor in Morocco where the first phase of the competition is to start. The two-week marathon is to finish in Senegal on January 14.

The total route of the rally-marathon usually consisting of challenging untravelled special stages will number 6,500 kilometers in the new racing season. The route involves five stages in Morocco, six in Mauritania, and one in Senegal: these are special stages chockfull of obstacles with a minimum of liasions, as well as two circular stages and a sophisticated roadbook. The participants will have to overcome 12 stages in all.

Apart from the interesting special stages where the participants have a chance to show their skills, Africa Eco Race offers environment for testing natural gas powered trucks. Thus, the CNG KAMAZ racing truck has been participating in the legendary African marathon for the third year in a row. Every year Gazprom Gazomotornoye Toplivo provides a mobile filling station full with environmentally friendly and economical type of fuel - natural gas - to fill this truck during the race.

Last year, the crew in the KAMAZ NGV became the leader among hybrid vehicles and showed fourth result in the truck standings at the Africa Eco Race 2016.
